The research project, “Diplomatic Archives: Research on the Historical Memory of Cuba,” offers a critical investigation into the role of diplomatic documentation in constructing and transmitting historical narratives.
Focusing particularly on the aftermath of the Cuban Revolution and the geopolitical tensions of the Cold War, the project interrogates how institutional actors contributed to shaping global perceptions of Cuba. It seeks not only to analyze archives, but to rethink how history itself is produced, mediated, and preserved across borders.

Research begun in July 2022 at the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Declassified documents from 1890–1970
*This project is funded by EU-Cuba Network For Democracy's members donations
Drawing on declassified materials (1890–1970) from the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this project explores the intersection of diplomacy, memory, and historiography.

This project includes the development of a digital archive and research platform dedicated to the study of Cuban historical memory through diplomatic sources. The platform brings together declassified documents (1890–1970) sourced from the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, making them accessible to researchers, students, and the broader public.
Beyond preservation, the platform functions as a consulting and analytical space, offering curated materials, thematic collections, and interpretive tools to better understand the role of diplomacy in shaping narratives about Cuba.

The project adopts an interdisciplinary methodology, combining archival research, historiography, and political analysis. It focuses on the critical examination of diplomatic documents to understand how institutional actors constructed and transmitted narratives about Cuba, particularly in the context of the Cuban Revolution and the Cold War.
Special attention is given to:
This approach allows for a nuanced reinterpretation of Cuban history through international lenses.
